William Hill Reports Big 2012 Earnings

Posted by admin | Casino Affiliates | Thursday 31 January 2013 9:03 pm

On land and online William Hill is booming.

William Hill reported double digit revenue growth in 2012 thanks to a strong performance from their online division. According to a recently released earnings report, the company’s profits were a whopping $ 512 million, up from $ 432 million at this time last year.

The respected UK bookmaker saw earnings in the online and mobile sectors absolutely skyrocket, lifting the whole company along with them. The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported that William Hill’s net revenue from online operations jumped up 30% in just the first six months of 2012 to around $ 311 million.

In the mobile sector, the company’s investments in mobile sports betting and casino gaming apps paid off handsomely, too. Their take from mobile wagering accounted for 22% of their total take in that sector, while the gaming app accounted for 11% of the total gaming revenue.

William Hill made some big acquisitions in 2012 including the purchase of Sportingbet.com and the Cal-Neva Sportsbook operations in Nevada.

The Cal-Neva purchase, and the securing of a Nevada gaming license, puts William Hill in a good position to add a revenue stream from the United States to next year’s earning report.

Hungary Draft Gaming Bill Under Fire

Posted by admin | Casino Affiliates | Thursday 31 January 2013 8:22 pm

A proposed amendment to the Hungarian Gaming Act that levies fees on operators is coming under fire from the Remote Gaming Association (RGA).

Under the terms of the legislation, Hungary’s online gambling market would be opened up to sports betting and table games (it’s currently limited to horse racing and cards).

Access to those markets, would come with a heavy, up-front price tag and that’s what’s arouse the RGA’s ire. Operators would have to pay a whopping 100m HUF ($ 451 k) to each product line they launch in Hungary and would only be granted a five-year license.

In a statement posted on their website, the RGA criticized the proposed amendments:

The RGA considers the concession fees to be unrealistically high and likely to deter many operators from entering the market.

The proposed amendments to the Gaming Act definitely give the state-owned sports betting monopoly, Szerencsejáték Zrt (SzRt), a solid head start on the competition. SzRt would be automatically granted a license, though they currently only offer land-based betting.

On a positive note, the RGA applauded the 20% tax on gross gaming revenues. Gross revenue taxes are considered best practice by the European Commission (EC) and have been a major sticking point in other countries with state-owned gambling operations, like Germany.

There’s no word on when the EC will hand down their opinion on the amendments.

Full Tilt Poker Accused of Bribery by Black Friday Character

Posted by admin | Casino Affiliates | Wednesday 30 January 2013 8:31 pm

Jeremy Johnson

Did Full Tilt Poker offer Nevada Senator Harry Reid $ 1 million to change his position on online gambling?

That’s the allegation disgraced banker and Black Friday figure Jeremy Johnson made last spring to Utah chief deputy attorney General John Swallow.

Johnson had hoped to somehow pay off the Senator to help make an FTC investigation into his business dealings disappear. According to a report in the Salt Lake City Tribune, Johnson claims to have heard that the Senator had worked a similar deal with Full Tilt Poker.

Reid’s office strongly denied any allegations of wrongdoing saying:

The allegations of bribery by Mr. Johnson, a man with a background of fraud, deception and corruption, are absurd and utterly false. Bribery is a crime for which Senator Reid has personally put people behind bars. Senator Reid will not have his integrity questioned by a man of Mr. Johnson’s low record and character, and his outrageous allegations will not go unanswered. Clearly, a desperate man is making things up.

Despite those denials, Johnson is sticking to his guns and issued his statement saying:

He lives in a glass house that is filled with shady real estate deals, secret meetings and questionable fund raisers. He should be careful where he throws rocks.

Given Johnson’s credibility problems, it seems unlikely that anything will come of his accusations against the powerful Senator.

Do you think there’s any validity to Johnson’s claims? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.

Promoting Merge Gaming After Dropping Rakeback

Posted by admin | Poker Affiliates | Tuesday 29 January 2013 10:24 pm

One of the biggest selling points for Carbon Poker and Aced was that they offered players 35% rakeback paid daily. That will change on February 1st when all players are moved to the VIP program. The VIP program is an improvement for low volume players already on the VIP plan but all players on rakeback will either have the same or worse rakeback returns on the new system.

Players have been asking about what better options there may be for flat rakeback. Players outside the US have several flat rakeback options. Microgaming and Boss Media are non US sites that still offer flat 30% rakeback to players. There are also many competitive VIP programs at Party Gaming, iPoker and Ongame, among others. Players in the US have limited options. Here are some of the pros and cons of Carbon Poker versus the competing US facing sites.

Revolution Gaming

Revolution Gaming is the largest US facing network. The US friendly skins on the network are Juicy Stakes and Lock Poker.

Advantages: The biggest advantage Revolution Gaming has over Merge Gaming is that they have 50% more traffic. This makes the tournaments and cash game selection better, especially at higher limits. They also still allow rakeback, which uses the player friendly dealt method. There are also no rakeback deductions. This is a huge draw for US players as it is the largest rakeback percentage allowed in all of online poker. Juicy Stakes also offers a creative Gold Card promotion.

Disadvantages: Lock only pays 20% of net revenue to affiliates. This is half of what Carbon Poker and Aced pay. The cashout situation on Revolution Gaming is terrible for US players. Lock and Juicy Stakes consistently rank at the bottom in terms of cashout speeds. Even players outside the US can wait over a month at these two rooms, although non US players have the option of playing at faster paying Revolution skins such as Intertops, Red Star Poker and Poker World. Players that do not play Texas Hold’em and Omaha will not find their game on Revolution Gaming. They do not even offer stud tables or any other exotic games.

Bodog/Bovada

The Bodog Poker Network is the second largest US facing network. The traffic on the Bodog Poker Network has been trending slowly upwards. This may change after the Super Bowl but the outlook is still great on the network.

Advantages: Bodog and Bovada are well recognized brands. The experience and marketing of these companies is among the best in the online gambling world. This helps players feel safe playing there. There is a large game selection and even a decent number of non hold’em games. There are also some large weekly tournaments. Bodog has also forced the issue of poker ecology and has been rewarded with above average game quality. Cashout speeds are also respectable.

Disadvantages: Bodog uses what they call a Recreational Player Model. This annoys some players. There are virtually no player incentives, only a points for tournament tickets exchange. There are also no waitlists and no usernames. This has caused some trust issues with players, but on the other hand some players like these features.

Winning Poker Network

The Winning Poker Network is the fourth largest US facing network. Winning Poker Network is closely related to the massive sports book group BetCris. Bookmaker is the US facing side of this business. They are one of the most reputable groups in online gambling and have as much experience as anyone when it comes to online gambling.

Advantages: Rakeback is still allowed on the network. The games are also loose and plentiful at $ .50/$ 1 and below at No Limit Hold’em. The group also offers the Online Super Series that helps draw tournament traffic to the network. Cashouts to US players are as fast as it gets. They routinely rank #1 in our US payment processing report.

Disadvantages: There is little traffic at mid or high No Limit Texas Hold’em, there is little Pot Limit Omaha traffic and there is no traffic outside of those two games. There are also rakeback deductions. Also, many of the cash games are on a Bad Beat Jackpot rake system. This means that there is extra rake in those games. Many serious players hate Bad Beat Jackpot tables, although their promotion called TheBeast offsets some of this for high volume players.

Pocket Kings’ Liquidator Appointed

Posted by admin | Casino Affiliates | Monday 28 January 2013 9:16 pm

The final nails are getting hammered into Pocket Kings&#8217 coffin this week after a liquidator was appointed to deal with the troubled site&#8217s remaining property.

It&#8217s just the latest chapter in the, seemingly, by no means-ending rain of Black Friday fallout.

Pocket Kings was when component of the Total Tilt Poker portfolio and was bought by the Rational Team, proprietor of poker big PokerStars just six months in the past. Evidently organization officials just couldn&#8217t justify any attempts to resurrect the failed web site.

A report in EGR recently explained inside business paperwork justifying the transfer:

The business are not able to, by explanation of its liabilities, carry on its organization and&#8230it is advisable to wind up the identical.

1 of these liabilities is most likely the $ 1.three million lawsuit that was just lately filed by PokerStrategy.com in a dispute above affiliate marketing revenues.

So far, no a single from Rational Team has commented publicly on this matter.

What do you think of Rationale&#8217s choice to liquidate Pocket Kings? Share your thoughts in the responses section below.
