Hacker Cheats PrimeDice Out of a Cool Million in Bitcoin

Posted by admin | Casino Affiliates | Tuesday 30 June 2015 3:22 pm

A hacker recently cheated Bitcoin casino PrimeDice out of a cool million, there’s not a damn thing the site’s operators can do it about it.

The PrimeDice con, which exploited a weakness in the site’s random number generator, and the brouhaha that followed in the Bitcoin community, illustrate some of the challenges operators face in this new market.

To get his million, the hackers (who goes by the handle, Hufflepuff) figured out a way to bet roughly $ 8,000 worth of Bitcoin every second for an extended period. That was enough to beat the game, which is a sort of high/low guessing game based on some pretty intense math that should be tough to track.

In a statement to Gambling911.com, a PrimeDice representative seemed pretty nonchalant about the whole affair saying:

Our entire team was shocked that Hufflepuff continued to beat the house edge (1%) and stack up more and more profit over time. Given the nature of Bitcoin there wasn’t much we could do but take it on the chin.

The, “nature of Bitcoin,” he’s referring to is the anonymity the digital currency is famous for. There is almost no way for anyone to track exactly who is spending a specific Bitcoin.

Though PrimeDice is offering a reward to anyone who helps recover their lost million, the chances of that actually happening are next to impossible.

On Bitcoin and hacker forums, the famously libertarian Bitcoin crowd seemed to take a blame the victim approach and chided PrimeDice to flaws in their number generator. More than one poster trotted out the old, “Casinos are just trying to take advantage of people anyways,” argument.

No matter how you slice it, PrimeDice’s story says a lot about the inherent risks of working in the Bitcoin space.

Doyle Brunson’s Twitter Hacked in a Big, Bad Way

Posted by admin | Casino Affiliates | Friday 26 June 2015 3:17 pm

Poker legend Doyle Brunson’s 400,000+ Twitter followers received a rude surprise earlier this week when his feed began spewing out obscenities and pornographic images.

What followed was an ongoing Twitter war between the 82-year-old cowboy card player and the hacker who had hijacked his account.

The drama began unfolding when Brunson’s account began sending out messages that were definitely not in the poker master’s style. For example, at one point the feed beckoned:

HOPING ALL MY FOLLOWERS DIE IN A HOUSE FIRE

and

KILLING MYSELF SOON HAHA

Anyone who is at all familiar with Brunson immediately picked up on the fact that Brunson had clearly been hacked. What made things especially interesting was that at one point, Brunson and the hacker were simultaneously Tweeting from the same account.

The hacker, who Brunson had somehow figured out was called, Aiden, and was possibly from Georgia seemed to have faded when Brunson Tweeted:

I think I have my account back. Little creep from Ga hacked me#notgood

Unfortunately, for Brunson, Aiden was not done:

GUESS WHO’S BACK, BACK AGAIN

And that was that.

Brunson never really regained control of his account and, even worse, Aiden began deleting Brunson’s older Tweets.

By the end of the day on Tuesday, Brunson’s account had been suspended and there was no word on whether the deleted Tweets could be recovered or when Brunson might take back control of the account.

One question that’s nowhere near being answered is who would even want to hijack Brunson’s account? Brunson has less than 500,000 followers and is well respected in the poker world.

Whether this was the merely the work of misguided prankster or someone with a personal beef against Brunson remains to be seen.

All is Not Well on the Island of Macau

Posted by admin | Casino Affiliates | Wednesday 24 June 2015 3:17 pm

All is not well on the island of Macau where casino gaming revenues have sunk to their lowest levels in nearly half a decade.

According to statements from the island’s Secretary for Economy and Finance Lionel Leong Vai Tac, as reported by CalvinAyre.com, casino revenue for June could fall as low as $ 2 billion. While that’s still a pretty impressive number, it would represent a dip of nearly 25% over last month.

Unfortunately, for Macau’s casino operators, the last two months are part of a disturbing downward spiral that’s having a big impact day-to-day life in the Vegas of the East. With casino tax revenues bottoming out, the island’s government is scrambling to fill holes in its budget, while still providing basic social services.

Macau’s gambling problems looks even worse when you consider that the Galaxy Macau’s Phase 2 just opened last month. The Galaxy was the first massive new casino to open up there in nearly three years. So far, revenue at the mega-resort has been what company officials call, “satisfactory.”

So what’s behind the Macau crash? A big part of the problem stems from a crackdown on corruption, VIP on Mainland China.

That’s resulted in plenty of wealthy factory managers, government officials and other Chinese “new rich” either facing prison sentences, or being a bit more discrete with how they spend their cash.

Though some sources say that a May/June slump is pretty typical for Macau others, including Forbes say that administrative changes in how visas are handed out in China, as well Macau’s failure to diversify its economy, are behind the slump.

The lesson here, apparently, is that catering a gambling resort to a small group of Chinese high rollers is not an effective, long-term strategy.
