Colorado Lawmakers Want ‘Office of Fantasy Sports’

Posted by admin | Casino Affiliates | Wednesday 30 March 2016 3:15 pm

Colorado lawmakers are examining the idea of opening up an, “Office of Daily Fantasy Sports,” to regulate and license daily fantasy sports (DFS) sites. It’s an idea that’s supported by the the fantasy sports industry and, if successful, could catch on nationwide.

The bill was introduced last week and has received bipartisan support at the state capitol. Supporters of the bill say that the office will help bring the fantasy sports industry into the regulatory fold, while still respecting the limitations established by the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006.

In its current form, the bill would establish a regulatory framework for fantasy sports that exists outside the regulatory framework that currently governs the state’s land-based casinos. That framework would require fantasy sports operators to undergo background checks and hold licenses. It also limits real money fantasy sports adults over the age of 18.

In an interview with the Denver Post, Christina Duran, the bill’s sponsor said:

My bill is an effort to codify important industrywide standards to protect consumers and ensure the integrity of all fantasy sports Enacting this important legislation will ensure that all providers are taking the necessary steps to protect fantasy sports fans, and will give consumers peace of mind about the integrity of the games they love.

One important aspect of the Colorado bill is that it makes a clear distinction between real money fantasy sports and the traditional, land-based, casino industry. That represents a big win for the fantasy sports and its a model the Draftkings of the world would love to see implemented on a national scale.

Pinnacle Sports Purchases Pinnacle.com Domain

Posted by admin | Casino Affiliates | Monday 28 March 2016 3:29 pm

Pinnacle Sports, one of the oldest online sportsbooks in the business, is now the proud owner of the Pinnacle.com domain.

It’s a seemingly minor move that could, in fact, have a huge impact on the offshore sports betting business. The Pinnacle.com purchase is also a reminder that, even in the age of PPC, social media, and advanced customer acquisition techniques, domain names still matter.

Since its founding in 1998, Pinnacle Sports has been based at PinnacleSports.com, but has long coveted the Pinnacle.com domain. That domain, however, had long been in the hands of an outfit called, Pinnacle Data Systems, Inc., a Phoenix-based electronic documents systems developer.

Pinnacle Data Systems, however, was recently purchased by Avnet, another Phoenix-based tech firm. Avnet, which is worth about $ 22 billion, apparently didn’t have much attachment to Pinnacle.com and sold the domain for an undisclosed price. (Pinnacle Data Systems is now based at the more descriptive, PinnacleDataSystems.com domain.

There’s been no word on how much Pinnacle Sports paid for the domain, but money probably isn’t much of an issue for the massively successful sports book.

In fact, Pinnacle Sports has been pretty quiet about the whole affair. As of this writing, there’s been no official announcement about the sale from Pinnacle Sports at all. The only reason that anyone even knows about it is because sharp-eyed domain watchers noticed the sale was associated with pinnaclesports.com domain.

Though there’s been no word on when Pinnacle Sports will make the domain shift, there’s no question that it will make life a lot easier for Pinnacle customers and push more traffic towards the Curacao-based sportsbook.

Amaya Gaming CEO Hit with Insider Trading Charges

Posted by admin | Casino Affiliates | Saturday 26 March 2016 3:22 pm

Amaya Gaming CEO David Baazov has been hit with 23 charges of insider trading relating to his company’s blockbuster $ 4.9 billion acquisition of the Rationale Group.

The charges were laid by the government of Quebec and, if found guilty, Baazov could be facing stiff fines and a even a stint in prison.

Baazov’s troubles stem from the results of a recent investigation by the Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF), the Quebec equivalent of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).  The AMF was investigating claims that Baazov, and other Amaya Gaming insiders, used privileged information about the Rationale Group acquisition for profit, before that information was available to the general public.

The AMF investigation also resulted in similar charges for one of Baazov’s closest friend and business advisors, Benjamin Ahdoot.

In a statement to the press, Baazov vigorously defended his innocence saying:

These allegations are false and I intend to vigorously contest these accusations. While I am deeply disappointed with the AMF’s decision, I am highly confident I will be found innocent of all charges.

In a separate statement, Amaya Gaming’s Board of Directors expressed its support for Baazov. The Board was a bit more robust in its defense and went so far as to call the charges, “absurd.” They went on to say that their internal investigations found no signs of wrongdoing during the Rationale Group deal.

One groups that wasn’t particularly impressed by Baazov and the Board’s declaration, the financial world was highly unimpressed. By the end of trading on the day the charges were announced, Amaya Gaming shares had fallen 20% on worldwide exchanges.
